ABSTRACT
The main objective of the article is to present the academic, didactic and organisational achievements of Professor Bogusław Mrozek (1930-2020), the pioneer of regional studies and research on India and the South Asia region in Poland. It should also be pointed out that he was a co founder and the first director of the Institute of International Relations in the years 1976–1977. A proper assessment of the output of any researcher does not boil down only to a conventional summary of academic achievements, but first of all requires presentation of the historical context of its formation. This includes not only political and ideological circumstances, but primarily the state of academic discourse in a given period of time. With this in mind, the paper will first attempt to identify the status of international relations research in Poland in the years 1957–1977 and then the academic activity of Professor B. Mrozek.
